September 28, 2026This week, insurance claim follow-ups can be handled in your own system. EasyPost sends each question as a claim.message webhook, and replies go back through the Claims API. Approval and denial still arrive as claim events. A denial names the missing or unclear proof when EasyPost knows it.Core API Platform — New features and enhancements[Insurance Claims] Claim Messages — Follow-ups from EasyPost, including when a person is handling the claim, are delivered as claim.message webhooks. Show outbound messages to the claimant. Send the reply, including images or PDFs, with POST /claims/:id/messages.[Insurance Claims] Claim Events — claim.approved includes approved_amount, the amount EasyPost will pay. A partial approval uses the same event with status approved_partial. claim.rejected includes the denial reason in status_detail.[Insurance Claims] Denial Reasons — When EasyPost knows which proof was missing or unclear, status_detail names it. For example: "We could not approve this claim because we did not receive a purchase invoice or receipt that shows the item and its value." Otherwise it is a shorter reason such as "Item not covered under policy".[Insurance Claims] Availability — Claim messages are available on every account. The claim email still goes out. The webhook is an additional way to receive the same follow-up.

EasyPost files when product value is already on file. When it is not, product value can be submitted through the API or by replying to a weekly CSV turned on in EP Guard.Core API Platform — New features and enhancements[USPS Claims] API — Added list, retrieve, and needs-info for USPS lost or damaged claims on EasyPost-purchased labels. A test User API key can create a test-mode claim. Production claims come from those labels, not from this endpoint.[USPS Claims] Evidence — Submit product value for one claim, or up to 100 claims at a time. Product value is the only field, with a minimum of $2.00.[EP Guard] Weekly CSV — Set an email address in EP Guard to receive a CSV of claims that can still be filed once product value is added. EasyPost emails it every Monday at 13:00 UTC. Check the box when saving to also email the current file.[USPS Claims] Product value — Send line_items when creating a shipment so EasyPost has product value before a claim needs action. If the shipment already includes a customs form, each CustomsItem value is used instead. line_items are claims-only and are not returned on the Shipment.[EP Guard] Enrollment — USPS claims enrollment is on by default. No separate enroll step is required.
